Substations are factory assembled compact units and are designed to provide a completely self contained load centre.
In order to provide personnel protection from HV, the substation has three separate compartments:
- HV Compartment
- LV Compartment
- Transformer compartment
Each unit is comprised of three individual main assemblies and a typical substation would include:
- One metal clad 11kV, oil insulated; ring main unit available from our range;
- One, metal clad low voltage board for distribution of output from 500 or 1000kVA or 1000kVA transformer;
- One 11/0.4kV 500 or 1000kVA hermetically sealed transformer.
The Enclosure is of sheet metal, free standing, outdoor type on steel base. Steel plate and channels are used for the fabricated base structure and finished with tap coat colour as required. For the enclosure, sheet metal panels are used with top coat as required. Lockable doors are provided for access to the transformer HV and LV switchgear. Sand ingress limiting ventilation louvers are provided to supply adequate ventilation for transformer compartment for circulation of hot air.
Substations base have been designed for lifting from the underbase.
Internal connection is made by cross-linked polyethylene cable from the 11kV ring main unit to the transformer. The connections to the transformer primary being by means of plug-in bushings with fixed and straight connectors. The connections from the transformer low voltage side is made of high conductivity solid busbars direct from transformer to the Low voltage board.

- IP 349 for HV and LV compartments
- IP 239 for transformer compartment
